Hell hath no fury like a woman left empty-handed on Valentine’s Day.

That is the lesson that Ohio resident John Hammond, 46, learned the hard way on Sunday when police say his wife, Kimberly, attacked him with a mini-baseball bat for failing to buy her a gift for the occasion.

Washington County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the couple’s home in Belpre Township at around 11am Sunday after getting a 911 call about a domestic incident.

The officers were met by Mr Hammond who had scratch marks on his face, sore ribs and a large knot on the back of his head.

The unfortunate husband told deputies that his 46-year-old wife had spent the morning drinking and got into a verbal argument with him, which eventually turned physical.

During the lovers’ quarrel, Kimberly Hammond allegedly scratched her husband’s face and then attacked him with a mini baseball bat, knocking him out.

Mr Hammond also said that while he was still in a semi-conscious state, his wife kicked him in the ribs several times, reported The Marietta Times.

When interviewed by officials, Mrs Hammond admitted to consuming eight beers after watching a marathon of the AMC hit show The Walking Dead and said she grew upset because her spouse didn’t get her anything for Valentine’s Day, according to a police report cited by People Magazine.

The irate wife was hauled off to the Washington County Jail, where the results of a Breathalyser test showed she had a blood alcohol level of .221.

She has been charged with felonious assault and misdemeanor domestic violence. She was released on bail Monday.
