Why I Asked Permanent Secretaries To Bow Before Tinubu – Wike
In a bold and unabashed move, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended his decision to have permanent secretaries bow before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the President’s instrumental role in their career advancements.
During the commissioning of the seventh FCT project celebrating Tinubu’s one year in office, Wike explained his rationale, stating that President Tinubu played a pivotal role in ensuring the promotion of the permanent secretaries to the peak of their careers.
“Two days ago, when the President came, we tried to thank him for what he did in making sure that those who had already lost hope in their career progression got to the peak of their career,” said the Minister.
He emphasized the significance of showing respect and honor to the nation’s leader, dismissing criticism of his action. Addressing detractors, Wike stated, “It is an honor to be called out to take a bow, but some human beings can never see anything good.”
The Minister further demonstrated his stance by inviting the six area council chairmen, whom he hailed as change agents of the Renewed Hope Agenda, to also pay their respects to President Tinubu.
Wike’s defense of the gesture showcases a sense of gratitude towards the President for his efforts in reinvigorating career prospects and opportunities within the FCT administration.
The incident has sparked discussions among the public regarding the boundaries of protocol and respect in official settings, with opinions divided on the appropriateness of such displays of deference. Despite the mixed reactions, Wike’s unwavering support for the President’s role in advancing the careers of the permanent secretaries remains steadfast.
