Why I Am In The Senatorial Race From Lagos East District -PDP Chieftain, Yeye Olabisi Salis Fakos
Now, the woman of the people is set to become a senator under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Lagos East Senatorial District in the 2015 General Elections.
Olabisi, whose mother hailed from Ikorodu Area of Lagos, has worked as a Senior Supervisor in Banking Operation Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria before she resigned voluntarily to support her husband in participatory politics.
She said in a recent interview that her desire to serve the people of Lagos East Senatorial District is based on the urge to empower the women and youths of the district towards giving them a voice in their quest to secure promising future, bringing governance and benefits of the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
“I have a desire to explore and exploit the revenue potentials of the district by seeking legislation allowing for derivation from revenue generated by Federal institutions located within the district,” she said.
As part of her mission, Yeye Olabisi Fakos plans to project the district as the most economically viable of all within Nigeria and accord it equal status with the Federal Capital Territory.
Not done with that, Olabisi made it clear that she wants to eradicate, in totality, the abuse of the child-girl in particular and women generally in whatever form.
Olabisi, who is a graduate of Banking and Finance from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State and, who holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Communication from the Nigeria Institute of Journalism, Ikeja, Lagos has a desire to ensure mandatory primary education enrollment for all children in Nigeria, and qualitative healthcare provision.
Unlike many people, who pretend to love the people only to join politics for monetary gain, Yeye Olabisi is selfless and this is made clear through her NGO, Olabisi Salis Foundation through which she has impacted positively on people’s lives as a silent philanthropist by awarding scholarship to less privileged students at home and abroad and assists some to travel overseas.
She has bought GCE Examination forms and also paid for tutorial classes for so many youths, trained several youths and women in the acquisition of skills to make them become financially independent.
“I have organized a free health talk, diagnosis including medical counseling for the people of the district to make healthcare affordable to the grassroots,” she said, adding that she is not happy that the people are suffering amidst plenty.
Yeye Olabisi wondered why some people seek political offices, when they are not ready to assist the masses or make contributions that would make life better for them.
“My life is about making people comfortable. My husband and I have affected so many lives and we are still ready to do more. I want the people to support my aspiration and I promise not to disappoint them. I am going to the senate to correct some anomalies and make the government understand that they must come to the aid of the grassroots. I will be open to my people and I will carry them along in all that I would be doing as soon as I get to office as a senator,” she said.
Yeye Olabisi has taken politics with passion of an artist and sincerity of a priest, while she admires the politics of her leader, Chief (Mrs.) Aduke Maina.
