The management of VOP 90.3fm has apologised to former president Ibrahim Babangida over an allegation that he issued a warning to President Bola Tinubu about a possible military takeover.

Recall that Babangida had reacted to the allegation through his media consultant, Deyemi Saka, and described the reports as baseless and unfounded.

Saka stated that General Babangida has always been a staunch advocate for democracy, both during his tenure and since leaving office.

“He firmly believes that democracy is the superior form of governance, and that electoral processes are the legitimate means for changing a government or expressing dissatisfaction or support,” he said.

However, VOP 90.3fm said in an apology letter released and signed on its behalf by its General Manager, Yemi Adeoye, and dated February 16, 2024 that “this act of unprofessionalism is deeply regretted by our Radio Station, we sincerely apologise for this, and we promise to be more thorough on vetting news and analysis being delivered by our staff members.”

The station then apologised for any inconveniences and embarrassment the news must have caused a man of IBB’s reputation.

“We would go back on air, publicly refute this fake claim and apologise to the members of the public and to your humble self.

“We will also wish to physically come and tender our deepest apologies if you would oblige us as we are ready to go to any length to show how deeply sorry are,” the letter read.
