US Delegation Visits Anambra Over Deadly Embassy Convoy Attack

Following the tragic attack on May 16, 2023 that claimed the lives of four officials of the United States of America, and five police officers, a delegation from the US Embassy has visited the Naval Base in Onitsha, Anambra State.

It was gathered that the attack, believed to have been carried out by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), occurred in Ogbaru area of the state.

The delegation, led by Mr. Jim Suor, the Regional Security Officer of the US Consulate in Lagos, expressed their gratitude to the Navy for their swift action in rescuing two embassy staff members, who were abducted during the incident.

During the courtesy visit on Saturday, May 20, 2023, the US delegation met with Navy Captain G Osuobeni, the Commander of the base.

We were informed that the head of the US team commended the efforts of the Nigerian Navy and expressed the profound appreciation of the US Government for the support and dedication of the security agencies in Anambra State, especially the Nigerian Navy.

“The head of the US team stated that the US Government is highly appreciative of the efforts of security agencies in Anambra State, particularly the efforts and supports of the Nigerian Navy,” the source revealed.
