Toyosi Akure Foundation Sponsored “Yagba West Unity Cup” Ends in Grand Style 

?Vessels FC lifts Trophy

The maiden edition of “Yagba West Unity Cup”, a football tournament sponsored by Humanitarian Group, Toyosi Akure Foundation (TAF), ended in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area at the weekend, with the right degree of pomp.

At the finals played on ECWA Primary School, Odo-Egbe football field, and watched by an excitedly large crowd of football fans, Vessels FC defeated Asalu FC by 2-0 to lift the coveted golden trophy. Lion Base FC and New stars FC settled for third and fourth places, respectively.

The winning team and runners up received N100,000 and N50,000 cash rewards, respectively. Each also smiled home with full jersey kits. Third place team got N20,000, while the fair playing team got N10,000.

A total number of 14 football teams from various communities in Yagba West LGA participated in the three-week-long fiesta. The momentum created by this singular stroke of effort by the Houston, Texas headquartered TAF, effectively reignited the long paused excitement among enthusiasts of competitive sporting activities in that region, football in particular.

The tourney, which kicked off on August 8, 2024, is an arm of TAF’s sports and social cultural development department.

In his remarks, founder and sole financier of TAF, Dr Toyosi Akure described football as a unifying force aimed to enhance unity, peaceful and harmonious relationship among the youths as well as the adults.

Borrowing the acronym “In Unity We Stand, Divided We Fall”, Dr Akure promised to embark on other programmes towards promotion of unity, love, and peace among the youths in the local government.

He assured that the talents discovered in the just concluded tournament will be nurtured to stardom.

Dr Akure deeply appreciated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for a job well done by ensuring a hitchfree competition. Also, he praised the coaching crews of the participating teams and the players for the demonstration of good conduct, adherence to ethics and rules during the period of the competition.
