Tinubu to Nigerians: The challenges you face are for better tomorrow
President Bola Tinubu has expressed that the current challenges faced by Nigerians as a result of the elimination of the petrol subsidy are a stepping stone to a more promising future. Speaking on Thursday during the public unveiling of “Brutally Frank,” an autobiography of Edwin Clark, the convener of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Tinubu drew parallels between the difficulties caused by the removal of the petrol subsidy and the pains of childbirth. He emphasized that these hardships are essential for the emergence of a rejuvenated nation.
In his stead, George Akume, the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), represented Tinubu. Drawing an analogy, Tinubu likened the present challenges to the labor pains experienced during childbirth, illustrating that such discomfort is integral to the birth of a new era.
Tinubu acknowledged that immediate solutions might not be readily available for Nigeria’s predicaments, but he urged all citizens to actively participate in the ongoing transformation. He reassured the public that measures are being implemented to mitigate the effects of these changes, highlighting the dispatch of 100 truckloads of fertilizers and grains to states, with additional supplies in transit.
Akume conveyed Tinubu’s message, stating, “I know the removal of fuel subsidy has created some things. And that is why palliatives are being put in place; 100 trucks of fertilizers have been sent to the states. One hundred trucks of grains have been sent and more are coming and more buses are also coming. We can endure this for a moment. What we’re going through today is for a better tomorrow. Nations are great because citizens have hope. They have hope that tomorrow will be better than today.”
