Supporters of Lyon Protest To Bayelsa State APC Secretariat …Call For Cancellation Of Party’s Governorship Primary Election

Supporters of an aspirant in the Bayelsa State Governorship Election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief David Lyon, yesterday stormed the state secretariat of the party with a peaceful protest, seeking the cancellation of the recent gubernatorial primary election of the party, which was supervised by Maj. Gen. A T Jubrin (rtd), who declared H.E Chief Timipre Sylva as the winner.

The 105 Ward Agents of Chief David Lyon rejected the result in its entirety.

They stated that it was not possible that someone, who failed gubernatorial elections in 2015 would score 52,061 votes, while someone, who won elections in 2019, scored 1,582.

Hon. Indutimi Komonibo, a member of the team of David Lyon, said in a statement that every well-intentioned member of the APC in Bayelsa State is aware of and agreed that the 105 wards of the state were not covered by the governor’s primary poll, which held on April 14.

“On the day of the election, voters waited from early morning until late night, and neither election materials nor election officials were present.

“It is therefore very saddening to learn of a fraudulent declaration of a result emanating from that exercise.

“It needs to be completely denounced since it is criminal and irresponsible.

“We further urge the National Working Committee (NWC) and, more specifically, the National Executive Committee (NEC), of our great party, to reject the results as announced by the Primary Election Committee and to punish those who encouraged such a heinous and reckless crime,” the statement read.
