Salisu Hotoro, a critic of the governor of Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje and supporter of Kwankwasiyya movement, has been arrested.

Mr Hotoro was picked by the operatives of the State Security Service, SSS, in his Hotoro home on Thursday.

Sources disclosed that he was arrested for allegedly casting aspersions on a former managing director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Aminu Dabo.

The former managing director of NPA drew the ire of the Kwankwasiyya supporters when he reportedly claimed that he “takes care” of Kwankwasiyya supporters before his defection to APC.

Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, spokesman for Kano State gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abba Yusuf, confirmed Mr Hotoro’s arrest on his Facebook page, saying he was arrested by the SSS.

“Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, a member of my team and a social media activist faithful to Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano has been arrested by the men of DSS in Kano.

“Salisu was humiliated and chained at both his legs and hands then taken away to an unknown destination.

“We condemn this intimidation on the opposition as an act of impunity from the enemies of democracy,” Mr Dawakin-Tofa wrote.

Mr Dawakin-Tofa disclosed that all efforts by the Kwankwasiyya group to know Mr Hotoro’s whereabouts proved futile.

While condemning the arrest, the spokesman alleged that the development was a plot by the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and the All Progressives Congress, APC to launch onslaught on him and some Kwankwasiyya social media activists.

He vowed that the intimidation would not deter the opposition from criticising President Muhammadu Buhari and Mr Ganduje over alleged injustice meted to them in the re-run election.

The state Director of SSS, Alhasan Mohammed, could not be reached at at the time of filing in this report as his mobile number was not reachable.

Mr Hotoro was previously arrested and charged to court late last year.
