Safety Experts; Adedoyin, Adenike Lasisi, Launch Book On Fire Prevention/Management

A new book on the need to comply with safety standards for fire prevention and building codes has been launched in Lagos.
The book, entitled, “Introduction to Fire Protection and Management, A Practical Approach to Prevention and Management,” was co – authored by Certified Health, Safety and Environment expert, Dr Adedoyin Lasisi and his wife, a Certified Fire and Safety Professional, Mrs Adenike Lasisi.
Adedoyin Lasisi is the Convener of Eko Envirotalk TV.
The event held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce And Industry (LCCI) Conference and Exhibition Centre, 10, Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, Ikeja, Lagos.
Chairman of the occasion and Permanent Secretary in the Office of Drainage Services, Ministry of Environment, Dr Omobolaji Gaji, said that the book was timely to enable individuals cope with disasters that can be as a result of climate change and environmental infractions.
Dr Gaji while commending the authors for putting their years of experiences in the management of Fire Prevention in book form, encouraged professionals to emulate the noble initiative for the public to learn.
In a paper on the Need for Fire Protection in Homes and Offices, renowned Fire Engineer, Mr Jumade Adejola, explained that fire disasters could be effectively prevented when one of the three of the causes, fuel; both liquid and solid, oxygen and heat are separated, while emphasising the need to install extinguishers at home an offices.
Adejola, who said that fire is not an enemy, urged the people to do the right thing, saying that if fire is not prevented, it could wreck havoc anytime.
“Don’t wait until you have disaster before you quench or prevent it. That was what happened in Dosunmu Market in Lagos, which was gutted by fire recently.
“We should leave what we ought to do for God to do. Do safety walk around the house, have good house keeping, and don’t allow too many junks around the house. Safety is key to life,” he said.
Delivering another paper on “Need for Multi -agency Collaboration in Fire Disaster Management in Lagos State,” Master Warrant Officer in the Nigerian Army, Akintunde Agunbiade, noted that collaboration improves emergency response, coordination, reduces duplication of efforts, increases public trust and confidence in government among others.
Speaking on behalf of the authors, Dr Adedoyin Lasisi, said that the book was borne out of the need to provide a citizens guide for protection of themselves, families and property by providing extinguishers and right information to call centres in the event of a fire to avert huge losses.
