The prospects for establishing Oke-Ogun State have significantly brightened

This is due to the decisive action taken by the House of Representatives, which has advanced four bills that propose the creation of additional states in the country.

One of these critical bills, designed to amend various sections of the 1999 Constitution as part of the ongoing constitutional review led by the 10th Assembly, has successfully passed its second reading.

This bill which is Sponsored by Rep. Oluwole Oke, aims to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), specifically by amending Part 1 of the First Schedule to create three new states: Oke-Ogun State, Ijebu State, and Ife-Ijesa State.

This initiative will effectively restructure the southwest region and pave the way for significant development.

A public affairs commentator and native of Oke-Ogun currently residing in Lagos, Mr Taoreed Abdullahi, has praised Rep. Oluwole Oke, the lawmaker representing the Obokon/Oriade Federal Constituency, for supporting the people of Oke-Ogun in their ongoing effort to secure a new state separate from Oyo State.

The call for the creation of Oke-Ogun State has been persistent for over three decades, with advocates believing that forming the state would promote development in the region.

Abdullahi urged other lawmakers from Oke-Ogun to rally behind the bill in order to turn this aspiration into reality, asserting that history would remember them favorably if they succeed in securing Oke-Ogun State at this time.

He also emphasized the importance of traditional rulers and local leaders coming together to speak with one voice in their quest for statehood.

Mr Abdullahi commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abass, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for their commitment to amending the 1999 Constitution to better reflect the desires and aspirations of Nigerians, encouraging them to do everything within their power to make the creation of Oke-Ogun State a reality.
