Our Next Plan Is To Control Nigerian Borders-Olubunmi Ojo

The Minister of Interior, Mr Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo has said that his line of action, after revolutionising the process of obtaining Nigerian International Passport, is to control the nation’s borders.

Olubunmi-Ojo stressed in a statement, which he personally signed, that once a problem is solved then there should be plan to solve another.
“As a minister, I don’t want my legacy or the legacy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope to be the issue of passport, God has taken care of that one.
“But from where I come from,  you solve a problem, you tick it, you go to the next one. Issue of border control is our priority because we can not be fighting insecurity when we don’t take control of our border. It doesn’t make sense. So we are doing everything humanly possible now, and very soon, Nigerians will see the difference when we secure our borders,” he said.
The minister stated that contagious communities are eating up the nation’s border communities and that his ministry is working with the Border Community Development Agency (established under former president Olusegun Obasanjo) to make more empirical rather than hypothetical solutions to audit and know what these communities need.
“When a nation’s borders are secured, the level of insecurity is reduced by more than 70 per cent. A secure border acts as the first line of defence against threats and challenges that may arise from external sources. It prevents unauthorized entry, illegal activities, and the inflow of potential security risks.”
“I have no excuse whatsoever not to secure the nation’s borders, I don’t want to be remembered solely as the minister who resolved passport backlog issues. There are more significant challenges to address”
“Any country that cannot exercise control over its borders and make informed decisions about who traverses them where and when is inherently prone to insecurity. A nation’s ability to secure its borders safeguards its citizens and fosters an environment of peace and stability,” he said.
