Adams Oshiomhole, the senator representing Edo North, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration faced a challenging economic condition upon assuming power. Since President Tinubu’s inauguration in May, the government has been grappling with rectifying the state of the economy.

Oshiomhole’s assertion that “the subsidy was over” resulted in an increase in petrol prices and a rise in the cost of living within the nation.

Following a meeting with Vice-President Kashim Shettima at Aso Rock on Tuesday, Oshiomhole spoke with journalists, explaining that the economic challenges the country is facing cannot be quickly resolved. He emphasized that addressing these issues would require difficult decisions.

The former Edo governor remarked, “The economic situation is a work in progress. There’s no immediate solution. The government took over a challenging economic state. This is common knowledge.”

“The administration inherited an economy where the total national revenue barely covered our debt obligations. It can’t get worse than that. But they were committed to adopting unconventional methods, stabilizing the economy, and then initiating progress.”

“Some tough decisions need to be made. It’s like someone who has fallen ill and requires surgery. If you want to pretend, you can apply ointments, perfumes, and lotions, and wear extravagant attire to mask the symptoms of the ailment.”

“However, a qualified doctor who upholds medical ethics will advise you that surgery is necessary.”
