OPIC Distributes Free NECO GCE Forms To Selected Public Schools In Oyo State
…As Education Commissioner Advises Students To Be Ambitious
The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister AbdulRaheem AbdulRahaman has advised public schools students in the state not to allow their background determine what they will become in the future.
AbdulRahaman stated this during the symbolic presentation of free NECO GCE forms to students of selected public schools in the state tagged; “EDUSUPPORT” by a non- profit organization; “Oluyole Progeny Incorporated Canada” (OPIC) at the conference room of the Ministry of Education at the state Secretariat in Ibadan, the state capital.
Barrister Rahaman charged parents to enroll their children in public schools and play their roles by monitoring the students after school hours.
This, the commissioner said, will help the government on its free education policy designed for the masses to materialise.
He thanked the members of OPIC in Nigeria and in the Diaspora for distributing free NECO GCE forms for the benefit of the less privileged students in public schools, noting that the present administration in the state will not take the good gesture for granted.
In his remarks, the President of OPIC, Dr. (Mrs) Bolanle Nassar and Dr. Yinka Afolabi said that no nation can grow without providing sound education for her children, adding that OPIC critically examined the present economic and social inadequacies in the country as they affect many parents in providing sound education for brilliant and promising youngsters.
Dr. Nassar said; “we decided to lend a helping hand by picking the bills of the 2023 NECO GCE froms of few of our “Great Tomorrow.” We are hopeful of having a robust number of high school graduates that will enter various trades, and academic, and who will uphold our nation and advance her worthy courses soon.”
She reiterated that OPIC is closing doors against illiteracy, academic dropouts, unwanted pregnancies, abortion, poverty, criminalities and other youthful exuberance that might emanate from lack of sound education.
“Our beneficiaries are chosen with gender balance to give equal opportunities to both boys and girls. I can assure you that going forward, we shall strive to continue in this feat annually,” Dr. Afolabi said.
Also present at the occasion were Baale of Ojoo, Alhaji Amzat Olagboyega, Director of Secondary Education Services, Mr, Olayinka Akanji, Chief David Olagunju, Oyo State Coordinator of OPIC, Alhaji Muritala Ogunrin among others.
