NSE President Tasks Members On Sustainable Development

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has advised its members to remain steadfast in their hard work and commitment to making lasting impact both locally and globally in profering solutions to societal challenges.
NSE President, Mrs Margaret Oguntala, made the call on Tuesday in a statement to commemorate the 2025 World Engineering Day (WED) celebration.
“I urge all Nigerian engineers, both within the country and beyond our shores to remain steadfast in their hard work and commitment to making lasting impact both locally and globally.
“The world is looking to us for innovative solutions and we must continue to rise to the occasion with resilience, ingenuity and the spirit of excellence,” she said.
Oguntala, a Fellow of NSE reaffirmed the society’s resolve to harnessing the power of engineering to drive sustainable development and improve the lives of our people.
Oguntala in the message to engineers, stakeholders and partners in development, expressed delight on WED celebration in recognition of the remarkable contributions of engineers to the society.
She thanked policymakers, leading scientists, captains of industry and all stakeholders for working together with Nigerian engineers over the years.
She said that their collaboration had been instrumental in ensuring that engineering continued to be a driving force for progress and development.
“I remain optimistic that our joint efforts will bring about the much needed transformation in advancing our economy and shaping a sustainable future for our country through engineering.
“The continued cooperation and support of all stakeholders with Nigerian Engineers are essential to effectively tackle the enormous task of infrastructure development and maintenance across the country,” she said.
Oguntala commended United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for instituting the annual event to recognise engineers and engineering as essential pillars of sustainable development.
According to her, this initiative has amplified the visibility of the profession and underscored the critical role engineers play in shaping a better world for all.
She said that since its inception, indigenous engineers had actively participated in the annual WED celebrations, demonstrating thier commitment to excellence, innovation and sustainable development.
The NSE boss commended all Nigerian engineers, both at home and in the diaspora for their firm dedication and contributions to national and global development.
She said that the 2025 global theme by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations, “Shaping Our Sustainable Future Through Engineering” was apt, highlighting the transformative impact of engineering in addressing global challenges.
She said that engineers had been the centre of sustainable solutions in every field, including climate change mitigation, clean energy development, water management, infrastructure resilience, digital transformation, among others. (NAN)
