Nigeria’s D’Tigress Pull Big Upset Against Top Seed, Australia’s Opals
Nigeria 65-58 Australia. Don’t underestimate the underdogs! Great D’Tigress of Nigeria! The Nigeria’s women’s basketball team has just pulled off one of the biggest wins in its history, beating Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This atones for the poor results the country has obtained so far in other disciplines of the ongoing Olympics.
A good early start from the Aussies was undermined by relentless turnovers (26-15 the Opals’ way), and at one stage they were down 45-30.
The Australians came back, but some wayward shooting in the last quarter (10 of 18 free-throws missed for the game) prevented the Opals from ever regaining the lead.
In just their third appearance at the Olympics, Nigeria’s upset the strongest side in Group B. Great defending and three-pointers.
