Nigerian Journalist, Suleiman Bisalla, Dies In Abuja explosion
The Managing Editor, North, of New Telegraph, Suleiman Bisalla, has been announced to be among the 21 persons confirmed dead in Wednesday’s bomb blast at the EMAB plaza in Abuja.
The 46-year-old journalist was said to have left the Abuja office of the newspaper at about 3.30 p.m. Wednesday for “the EMAB plaza to go and fix his phone” the newspaper announced on its website on Wednesday night.
Mr. Bisalla, a former Deputy Editor of Daily Trust Newspaper in Abuja, who joined the New Telegraph recently, hailed from Gindiri in Mangul Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He holds a Masters in International Relations from the University of Jos.
According to the newspaper, Mr. Bisalla’s corpse was identified and confirmed by his younger brother, Mohammed, at the Maitama General Hospital, Abuja.
The late editor was married with children.
The blast, which occurred at the busy plaza at about 4 p.m. local time, killed at least 21 persons while 17 others were injured according to the police. Officials said the bomb was thrown at the entrance of the plaza by someone on a power bike.
Though no group has claimed responsibility for the bomb explosion, the insurgent Boko Haram has carried out similar attacks in the past in the Nigerian capital, and has threatened more attacks.
