Namadi, Zulum, Adeleke, Abiodun, others bag NewsDirect  2024 Awards

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State and his Borno State counterpart, Professor Babagana Zulum were among 30 notable Nigerian leaders and business tycoons honoured at the Nigerian NewsDirect 14th Anniversary on Friday night in Lagos.
The eminent Nigerians, including Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State were also among those presented various awards for distinguishing themselves in various public services.
While Namadi bagged the Governor of the Year Award in  Agro-Investments and Security, Zulum was presented Governor of the Year (Nationwide) Award for 2024.
Also, while Adeleke was awarded Governor of the Year in Wealth Creation and Capacity Building, Abiodun bagged the Man of the Year Award.
Awards of Exemplary Leadership in Public Leadership was given to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola; Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu; and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa.
While a business tycoon, Alhaji Aliko Dangote was awarded Business Leader of the Year, the Registrar- General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Mr Hussaini Maigaji bagged award of Exemplary Leadership in Public Service
The Corporate Icon of the Year award went to Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, the Chairman, Board of Directors of Oodua Investment Group and the Best Healthcare Provider of the Year Award went to Fidson Healthcare Plc.
The Vice Chancellor of the Year Award went to Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo of the University of Uyo and the Lawmaker of the Year award went to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Mr Oliver Alawuba, Group Managing Director of United Bank of Africa (UBA), received Banker of the Year Award, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson, the President of Master Energy Group was awarded the Industrialist of the Year.
Other federal and state government agencies, private businesses and individuals were honoured at the event.
Speaking at the event , Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, the Chairman on the occasion, said that the anniversary was to celebrate excellence in public and private sector.
Applauding the late Founding Publisher/Editor- In- Chief of Nigerian NewsDirect, Dr Samuel Ibiyemi, Ashiru said that his legacies had remained huge and must be sustained.
Ashiru, who commended Mr Matthew Ibiyemi, the Executive Director and Publisher of the newspapers for keeping the legacies of his father, urged the awardees to do more in making life a better place.
In his remarks, Ibiyemi, who noted that his late father started the annual awards, said that no better stakeholder in the country could identify and assess people in different critical sectors apart from the media.
He said that the organisation went to various states and ensured due diligence to identify people and organisations with exemplary Impacts, before accepting nomination of the recipients of the awards.
He said that he team paid a visit to various states and identified the passionate zeal and sterling performance of some governors including Namadi and Zulum.
“These awards should be an encouragement for the recipients and it should also be a way for them to reassess themselves and to identify areas they can improve on.
Responding, Namadi, who was represented by Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government to receive the award, said that he was pleased with the recognition and happy his contributions were being acknowledged.
The governor, who dispatched top government functionaries including two commissioners and three technical advisers to receive the award, said that he was highly elated with the recognition of his investments in agriculture, security, education and health for the benefit of the people.
Namadi said that the award would serve as inspiration to  do more and work for the betterment of the people.
Receiving the award on behalf of Zulum, the Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, said that the recognition would spur the governor to be more dedicated to improving living conditions, national unity and security.
Tar said: “He (Zulum) is well known for his dedication, service, tenacity, and commitment to duty. He puts his head up, he takes extraordinary risk in order to develop the state.”
