McGregor, UFC fighter, announces retirement — for third time in four years
Conor McGregor, an Irish professional mixed martial artist and boxer, has announced his retirement from fighting — for the third time in four years.
The former two-weight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion took to his Twitter page on Sunday to break the news that he will not be fighting again.
“Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting,” he wrote. “Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”
This is not the first time that McGregor, who has a career record of 22 wins and four defeats, would be announcing his retirement on social media.
In March 2019, the controversial Irish fighter had left the sport only to return less than 12 months later to fight and beat Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in Las Vegas, Nevada.
McGregor, who is better known as ‘The Notorious,’ had in 2016 also tweeted: “I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya’s later.”
In August 2017, the 31-year-old Irish superstar had also fought Floyd Mayweather, former five-weight word champion, losing the bout.
