Former Governor-Elect of Bayelsa State, Chief David Lyon, expressed sadness at the loss of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Nestor Binabo, a former acting Governor of the State.

After a protracted illness, Hon. Binabo, who served as acting governor from January 27 to February 14, 2012, passed away on Thursday 29, June 2023.

He also held other political positions, such as those of Speaker of the Bayelsa House of Assembly, Deputy Speaker, Acting Speaker, and Commissioner for Youth and Conflict Resolution.

In a statement of condolence released by his media assistant, Mr. Dauseighe Bowei, Lyon stated that Binabo was a grassroots politician who was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC up to his passing and that he will be sorely lost in the state’s politics.

Additionally, he asserted that despite his efforts to survive, Binabo gave his fair share to the state’s advancement and went at the allotted period of God.

Lyon implored with his family-related and political families to accept his passing as God’s decision and find comfort in his enormous contribution to state politics and growth.

He additionally prayed to God to give his family the strength to cope with his passing.

It is regrettable that the state has lost a former acting governor, a powerful legislator, and a well-known leader and father, he said.

Nobody can inquire of God as to why something transpired. Everybody has a time slot.

I implore his family to take solace from his great record in politics and his contribution to Bayelsa’s growth. He will be sorely missed by the state.

“I pray God to give the family courage and the ability to accept this loss.”
