Lagos Assembly Speaker, Obasa To Build Resource Centre In Agege; Gives Out 200 GCE Forms
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa will build a resource centre in Agege which will cater for training and empowerment of youths and women in the state.
Already, according to the Speaker, construction of the resource centre will soon commence as the piece of land that will house the centre has been acquired.
Rt. Hon. Obasa revealed this recently in Agege during the flag off ceremony for his annual free GCE form distribution exercise.
“This resource centre will have all the necessary modern information and communication technology (ICT) equipment and vocational training machines of different types and it will be responsible for training and empowering youths and women not only in Agege but also in the entire state,” the Lagos Assembly Speaker told the excited youths and other prominent guests present at the occasion.
According to him, the aim of the establishing the resource centre is to make youths and women self dependent. “Our aim is to teach you how to fish rather than giving you fish to eat. By training and empowering youths and women, we are not only making them independent but also making them employers of labour,” he said.
On the free GCE forms distribution programme, Rt. Hon. Obasa stated that it has been one of his educational development programmes aimed at assisting indigent students in realising their education ambition.
“We have been doing this since 2003 and this is the 12th edition. Annually the number of beneficiaries keeps increasing. Last year, we gave out 100 forms, this year, we are giving out 200 forms and I want to assure you that the number will increase next year by the special grace of God,” he assured.Â
The Speaker advised the beneficiaries to ensure that they study hard in order to pass the examination noting that, “it is when you excel in this examination that you encourage us to do more. I want to tell you that there are several beneficiiaries of this programme who are now graduates of various tertiary institutions in the country. These are the people you should emulate”.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Professor Tunde Samuel, commended Rt. Hon. Obasa for the programme advising other elected and appointed politicians in Agege in particular and the state in general to emulate him and contribute to their quota to the development and growth of education in the state.
He also advised the beneficiaries to study hard and ensure that they excel in the examination in flying colours.
A total of 200 students benefited from the programme and the event was witnessed by the House of Representatives member for Agege Federal Constituency, Honourable Taofeek Abiodun Adaranijo; APC chieftain, Chief Safari Adaranijo; former Commissioner for Special Duties in the state, Dr Wale Ahmed; the Executive Secretary of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Akeem Adeyinka; former Vice Chairman of the council, Joseph Sunday Babatunde and another APC chieftain in the state, Arc. Kabir Ahmed among others.
