The Southwest Governors’ Forum rose from its meeting on Thursday night in Lagos and passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the economic stability and improvements recorded across the nation, particularly in the sustained supply and distribution of petroleum products and the stabilisation of the exchange rate.

The Governors issued a communique at the end of the meeting applauding the successful implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has greatly benefited students in the region.

Recognising emerging security threats, they resolved to establish a Joint Surveillance and Monitoring Team to enhance security coordination across the South West. The governors said they are committed to taking decisive actions to ensure the safety and stability of their communities.

Additionally, they addressed the issue of inflated food prices caused by unscrupulous middlemen in the supply chain. They agreed to create a State Food Inflation Joint Monitoring Team and establish Aggregation Centres and Food Hubs to combat food inflation.

They appreciated the Federal Government for creating the South West Development Commission (SWDC) with Cocoa House in Ibadan as its headquarters. They urged the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to strengthen collaboration with their Commissioners for Agriculture to boost industrialisation and infrastructure development.

Together, they said they are dedicated to promoting peace, security, and economic growth in the South West.
