The outgoing Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Oyo State, Barrister Mutiu Agboke has said that the independent National Electoral Commission INEC will prosecute suspected vote buyers that were arrested during the recently held governorship election in Ekiti State.

Agboke, while briefing journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said that the commission was working with the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure the prosecution of those arrested and that the process would commence as soon as the commission completes its investigations.

Agboke, who dispelled the media reports that the election was heavily monitized, said that though such could not be ruled out, it wasn’t as much as it was pojected in the media.

Recalled that operatives of the EFCC arrested persons suspected to have engaged in vote-buying during the Ekiti State governorship poll.

The suspects were said to have been caught with monies allegedly used for vote-buying.

The REC added that the INEC has created aditional 1,607 polling units in the state, while revealing that 753,044 Permanent Voters Cards were yet to collected by the electorates.

Agboke also hinted that card readers and incident forms have been replaced with Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) for the purposes of accreditation, verification and uploading of results from polling units.
