I’m Not Aware Of Planned Mayor Of Ndigbo Ceremony In Lagos, Says Obi Of Onitsha
Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, has refuted claims that he will serve as royal father of the day at the conferment of the title of mayor of Ndigbo.
The clarification comes amid widespread attention following the circulation of flyers and jingles erroneously citing the Obi of Onitsha as the event’s key figure.
In a statement on Thursday by Osita Anionwu, his chief of staff, the monarch said that he had neither been approached nor consented to participate in the event, which is set for December 16, 2024, at Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos.
“It has come to the attention of His Majesty, Nnaemeka A. Achebe CFR, mni, Agbogidi, Obi of Onitsha, through social media news reports, flyers and jingles that his name is being associated, as Royal Father of the Day, with the conferment of the title of Mayor of Ndigbo scheduled for 16 December, 2024 at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos,” the statement reads.
“His Majesty was neither approached nor did he consent to be associated with the event in any manner.
“His Majesty does not understand the purpose of the event and would not want to be associated with it.
“Ime Obi Onicha (Palace) appreciates the understanding of the reading public on this matter.”
