Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Ikorodu United, have completed the signing of Sam Okpodu, as their new head coach.

The former Warri Wolves coach, will officially assume the role, when Ikorodu United face Nasarawa United in Makurdi.

An official of the club, Tunde Ayoola, explained why they chose Okpodu for the job.

“I must tell you right away that it’s a done deal coach Sam Okpodu has signed with us as head coach today (Friday) in Lagos exactly 16.55 hours,” he told SuperSport.

“Officially he is the head coach of Ikorodu United for the ongoing top flight domestic league season.

“Okpodu will assume full charge of the side in NPFL matchday 8 clash at Nasarawa United in Makurdi.

“Coach Edema Benson will oversee Ikorodu United matchday 7 tie against Giwa FC on Sunday in Lagos.

“Coach Benson was an interim coach and has been reassigned as assistant to the head coach, Okpodu.

“Of course, the management mandated Okpodu to stabilise the team, pick one of the continental tickets or worst case scenario finish the season among the top four teams.

“The mandates are not tough ones given the pedigree of coach Okpodu and that could have been the reason he appended his signatures without hesitation.”

Ikorodu United currently have five points from 6 games
