How Ogun INEC Office Was Burnt By Arsonists

The Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State, Mr. Niyi Ijalaye and staff of the commission were taken by surprise over the mysterious inferno that gutted the Abeokuta South area officce of the Commission on Thursday.

It was gathered from a resident that a big noise like a bomb blast was heard in the office situated at Iyana Mortuary area of the state around 1 a.m on Thursday.

It was also gathered that about eight hoodlums jumped into the commission’s office with loaves of bread soaked with petrol, which they reportedly used to burn the office.

A security guard in the office, Mr. Azeez Hamzat, who made the revelation, said that that he called both the office of the fire service and the police immediately the inferno started.

It was discovered that the fire damaged some section sections of the commission including the store, the registration office and the conference room among others.

In his immediate reaction, the visibly shocked State’s INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Niyi Ijalaye described the ìncident as shocking.

In his words, “it is true that our office was set on fire, but the police has stepped into the matter. I don’t know what to say now because I am still shocked. The level of damage is still being assesed.”
