In August 2024, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, welcomed traditional rulers of Yoruba Okun origin from Kogi and Kwara states to the ancient Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife. Led by the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Dele Owoniyi, the visit aimed to present the new Elulu of Mopa, Oba (Dr.) Muyiwa Ibeun, to the Arole Oduduwa.

During the visit, the Obaro of Kabba praised the Ooni for promoting the identity and sense of belonging among descendants of Oduduwa worldwide.

He emphasized the need for collective efforts to address development challenges facing their people in modern Nigeria.

The Elulu of Mopa expressed gratitude to the Ooni for his support and love, which preceded his ascension to the throne.

He described the visit as a homecoming, thanking the Ooni for dignifying the traditional institution

However, the Elejuku of Ejuku highlighted the struggles faced by Okun Yorubas, who are often regarded as lesser Yorubas due to their location.

He appealed to the Ooni to use his influence to reunite them with their kinsmen and promote their rightful identity as descendants of Oduduwa

The Ooni reassured the visiting monarchs that Okun Yorubas are valued and appreciated by their western counterparts.

He emphasized their shared heritage and noble background, pledging to collaborate for the development, peace, and tranquility of their domains.
