Frank Lampard and Christine Bleakley marry: star-studded wedding ceremony for celebrity couple
Frank Lampard and Christine Bleakley were married today after a four-year engagement, with showbiz and footballing friends turning out to support them.
Bleakley, a television presenter, smiled for photographers as she entered the Chelsea church, in a glamorous white wedding dress.
Sporting a tan, pearl earring and a sleek up-do, she wore a lace-trimmed fitted gown nipped in at the waist with ribbon.
Lampard had embellished his suit with a single white rose for the late afternoon ceremony.
Bleakley and Lampard, who plays football for New York City FC, will go on to celebrate their wedding with a reception at The Arts Club, Mayfair, where Ed Sheeran has been tipped to perform for the couple’s guests.
Among the congregation at the church were Jamie and Louise Redknapp, John Terry, Philip Schofield, Kelly Hoppen, Piers Morgan, and television presenters Ant and Dec.
The official part of the ceremony will be carried out at St Paul’s Church, London, where a floral archway was assembled in preparation.
Bleakley chose a wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses from Suzanne Neville, who has also dressed Katherine Jenkins, Kym Marsh and Victoria Pendleton for their big days.
Lampard and Bleakley began dating at the end of 2009, with a spokesman confirming their wedding plans in 2011 after a “surprise proposal” in Los Angeles
Speaking of their relationship previously, Bleakley said: “He’s a brilliant daddy, he really is. It’s one of the things that attracted me to him. I have another couple of years of getting up at three o’clock in the morning, but I definitely would like to do it.”
Lampard, 32, has two daughters with his former partner, Elen Rivas.
Speaking during an appearance on ITV show Loose Women earlier this year, Bleakley said the couple have been happy to enjoy a long engagement, and hoped for an intimate ceremony when the time was right.
“We’re having a great time,” she said. “We want to have this and enjoy the fun time. We’re both very busy.
“We are very ready, we’re going to do quite a small and intimate wedding. We like our privacy.”
A source had told the Mirror newspaper: “Christine and Frank have had the date set for a while but have been trying to keep it under wraps.
“They want it to be an intimate affair and have only invited close friends and family. They haven’t signed a big magazine deal like a lot of stars do because it’s not their style.”
The couple have previously admitted their lives are “very much dictated by what Frank wants to do football-wise”, with wedding plans taking a back seat as he settled into New York. Last year, Bleakley told Hello! magazine: “The wedding plans are all good, in spite of what everyone keeps saying. We kind of know what we want but, as per usual, our lives are totally up in the air at the minute. But yes, it’s all ticking along.”
