FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria’s Flamingos Crush Ecuador, Pick Quarter Finals Ticket

Nigeria’s women Under-17 football team, the Flamingos have qualified for the Quarter Finals of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

The Flamingos on Saturday, beat debutants Ecuador 4-0 in their second Group A match at Santiago.

The Nigerian girls who won third place two years ago in India had beaten New Zealand 4-1 in their first Group A match and will play the host nation on Tuesday in the last group fixture.

The Flamingos opened scoring in the 28th minute with a Shakirat Moshood penalty kick after VAR showed that captain Taiwo Afolabi was fouled inside the box.

Harmony Chidi scored the second in the 54th with Peace Effiong scoring the third in the 66th.

Shakirat Moshood scored the fourth goal (a brace) in stoppage time bringing her tally to three goals at the ongoing competition.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old striker, Harmony Chidi was adjudged “man”Player of the match” on Saturday night. She scored Nigeria’s second goal on the way to the crushing 4-0 win.

It was her first goal in the U17 World Cup after she emerged as the leading scorer in the qualifiers with 13 goals.

She also had an assist, had an effort chalked off for offside and another that crashed against the crossbar with the goalkeeper all beaten.
