The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Wednesday explained that while the Federal Government’s rice, priced at N40,000 per 50kg bag, is ready for sale, specific sale centres have not been announced.

The minister cited concerns that revealing the locations could lead to the hijacking and hoarding of the rice by affluent individuals.
Idris addressed journalists at the Radio House in Abuja on Wednesday, following a press briefing.

He reiterated that the government has set up centres nationwide for the sale of rice, aimed at alleviating living conditions for citizens as part of the Tinubu administration’s initiatives.

“The distribution of rice to states is underway,” Idris said. “For security reasons, and to ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the rice, we cannot disclose the locations of the sale centres at this time.”

He emphasized that measures are being taken to prevent the intervention from being exploited by those with means, ensuring that the rice reaches those in need.

Idris also highlighted other government efforts, such as the National Education Loan Fund, which aims to support two million students and has already received 120,000 applications, and the N110 billion Nigerian Youth Investment Fund, which will be operational over the next two years.
