Fayemi Visits Alaafin Days After Monarch’s Caution Letter

Governor Kayode Fayemi has visited the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III within three days of a strong letter from the monarch to the governor on the query issued to 16 Ekiti monarchs.

Oba Adeyemi said the letter was written on behalf of other powerful traditional rulers in Yoruba Land including the Ooni of Ife, the Awujale of Ijebu Land among others.

In the letter, the Ekiti governor was cautioned not to disrespect Yoruba culture and bring the monarchs in Ekiti State into ridicule with the query.

The Oyo monarch had also raised concern on the appointment of a traditional ruler who the Ekiti monarchs alleged was below their rank to be the chairman of the Ekiti State traditional rulers council. In their quarrel the monarchs had refused to attend the meetings of the council forcing the governor to issue them a query.

Remarkably, the query came just as Governor Abdullahi Ganduje deposed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the emir of Kano following the former emir’s refusal to attend meetings where his former subordinates were made his equals by the governor following the decimation of the Kano emirate.

The quick response of Governor Kayode could mean his determination to urgently resolve whatever issue that his action may have caused.

No communiqué was issued after the meeting.
