Fake NGO Leader Arrested By DSS Over Blackmail And Extortion Tactics
On Thursday in Abuja, officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Kennedy Tabukoi for allegedly leading an unregistered non-governmental organization (NGO), the Niger Delta Development Initiative (NDDI), and using it to blackmail high-profile government officials.
It was gathered that when these officials failed to meet Tabukoi’s demands, he resorted to orchestrating protests with other unsuspecting groups against them. One such protest took place Thursday morning at the National Assembly gate, where Tabukoi led several organizations in rallying against what he claimed were attempts by federal lawmakers to obstruct a probe into the petroleum sector.
A security source confirmed that Tabukoi was unaware that security operatives had been monitoring him after multiple government officials reported his attempts to extort them for large sums of money and lucrative contracts, threatening to embarrass them if they did not comply.
The security source remarked, “Tabukoi boasted to friends and members of his syndicate that, as a Niger Deltan activist, he would use his NGO to manipulate any government official who resisted his demands.”
The source revealed that it was the very officials Tabukoi had been intimidating who alerted the DSS, revealing that he did not actually have a registered NGO and was instead using impersonation to blackmail them.
The source added that when he was invited for questioning, Tabukoi quickly corroborated the claims made by his so-called friends, admitting that he was aware many Niger Deltans profited from activism. Consequently, he expressed his intent to raise funds to register his own NGO.
