EXCLUSIVE:FAAN MD, Bunmi kuku Declares War On Touts, Questionable Elements At Airports. …Sets Up Task Force, Magistrate Courts To Prosecute Offenders
The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched an extensive campaign to crack down on criminal activities of undesirable elements in all the airports and make them a no go area to undesirable elements.
To spearhead the dedicated task force team who has been set up and mandated to go after the undesirable elements who have formed the habits of defrauding innocent air travelers through touting and extortion across the airports, the FAAN MD has announced the Director of Special Duties at FAAN, Mr Henry Agbebire as the chairman of the task force.
According to the mandate of the task force, any of these category of criminals caught by the task force will be prosecuted at the magistrate courts to be established at the international airports where all legal processes will be expedited for their prosecution.
Besides establishing the magistrate courts, Kuku has also directed that dedicated phone lines and QR codes that will provide passengers with a means of providing feedback on their airport experience be made available
To further raise the bar at the airports, the FAAN MD is not limiting the sanitization of the airports to the criminals as she has also resolved to beam the agency’s searchlight on the airport workers as she has equally directed the task force team to enforce discipline among airport staff and maintain a culture of professionalism at all levels.
Under the latest dispensation, all airport personnel must display their on-duty cards and name tags prominently for easy identification and accountability.
Kuku who declared her intention to personally engage with all government agencies operating at the airports to ensure compliance with the anti-touting and anti-extortion measures, stressed the commitment of FAAN under her management to deliver exceptional service and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all passengers and airport users.
The FAAN MD had recently expressed her deep concern over the ongoing harassment and extortion of passengers at the airports, emphasizing her commitment to creating a seamless and pleasant experience for travelers.
Warning all airport personnel, including FAAN staff to exhibit good behaviour at the airport , Kuku vowed to ensure strict disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone found engaging in illicit practices, stressing that the era of business as usual is over as she highlighted the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct.
The criminal activities of the touts, uniform personnel and other unwanted fellows who have been accused by many passengers of extorting or defrauding them has given the country a bad image.
