Ed Sheeran awarded MBE from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace
Talk about ending the year in grand style! Yesterday, Ed Sheeran visited Buckingham Palace to receive an MBE, making him a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
The 26-year-old pop star, who this year topped the charts with his third album Divide, was presented with the honour by Prince Charles for his services to music and charity at Buckingham Palace.
Ed, who attended the ceremony in a blue tie, long black jacket, light blue waistcoat and grey trousers, held up his medal outside the Palace the and told the press that he would happily perform the first song at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
The MBE has a lot of personal meaning for Sheeran. According to him, his grandfather, Bill Sheeran who passed away in 2013, was a massive fan of the Royal family and this MBE would have been a huge deal to him. Ed said:
He had all the commemorative plates and stuff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it’s actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he’d be pretty proud.
