The deceased have been transported to an unidentified hospital.

A staff of the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency (OYRTMA), who spoke anonymously, explained that the accident occurred early in the morning due to brake failure on the trailer, which lost control while descending a slope. The trailer crushed a tricycle, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, while a lorry carrying soft drinks behind it, attempting to avoid a collision, struck another tricycle. The staff member confirmed that six people died and five others were injured, all of whom were taken from the scene for treatment.

The crash caused significant traffic gridlock, forcing passengers to leave their vehicles and walk, while many drivers parked along the roadside, waiting for authorities to clear the wreckage. In addition to the trailer, lorry, and two tricycles involved, two other cars were also damaged in the accident.

Sympathisers at the scene prevented them from setting fire to the vehicles involved, blamed the drivers for the severity of the accident, criticizing the trailer driver for not swerving into a ditch after losing brake control instead of colliding with the oncoming tricycle.

Security forces present at the scene included personnel from Operation Burst, OYRTMA, the police, Road Safety, Amotekun, and local vigilantes.

Dr. Raji Wale, the Managing Director of Amuloko City Hospital, confirmed that four patients were brought to his hospital. “Six victims were brought here with various injuries. Two have been treated as outpatients and stabilized, while two children remain under care. One of the children was in the tricycle with his mother, who unfortunately died,” Dr. Raji said.

Two other victims with more severe injuries have been admitted and are currently receiving treatment.

When contacted, the Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo State, Mrs. Rosemary Alo, confirmed the accident, but stated she would provide an official update after her team submitted their report.
