Celebrating the landmark achievement, Drake posted a picture on Instagram alongside the comment: “Platinum off the tape. Views up next.” Views is a reference to ‘Views From The 6’, the title of Drake’s new album that is tentatively scheduled for release this year.Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ has sold 1.463million copies in the US already this year, but it was released in October last year. Drake is the second artist to sell 1million copies of their album in 2015, but the first album released in this year to do so.

The landmark achievement follows Drake’s highly publicised dispute with rival Meek Mill, which began when Mill accused Drake of not writing his own lyrics.

Drake addressed the dispute in two successive diss tracks (‘Charged Up’, ‘Back To Back’). After a period of silence, Meek Mill then released a response song of his own (‘Wanna Know’).
