Cross River Police Commissioner Dies Of COVID-19 – CMD
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Jimoh, has died from complications arising from COVID-19.
The Chief Medical Director of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Prof Ikpeme Ikpeme, confirmed the death of the police commissioner on Friday.
Speaking with reporters on phone, Ikpeme confirmed that Jimoh was brought to his facility ‘practically dead’.
The CMD also advised all those who were with him to visit the hospital for COVID-19 test and subsequently be on self insolation.
Ikpeme said: “We will not allow his remains to be evacuated for burial immediately.
“We have to follow the COVID-19 protocols before it can be moved out.
“Remember, he was brought to our Hospital dead on arrival.”
Jimoh resumed his official duties at the Diamond Hill state police command headquarters in June 2020 when he succeeded Mr Nkereuwem Akpan.
On 3rd December 2020, when the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, launched a security outfit called Operation Akpagwu where all service commanders were asked to be present mandatorily, late Jimoh could hardly stand straight or walk.
He hard to be supported by his aide-de-camp when it was his turn to speak.
Ayade morns
Meanwhile, Gov Ayade has expressed shock and sadness over Jimoh’s death.
He described his passing as a great loss to the state, country and the police force.
Ayade described Jimoh as; “a brave and courageous officer who was a central figure in the fight against kidnapping and other crimes in the state.”
In his statement, signed by Mr Christian Ita, his special adviser on media, Ayade eulogised the fallen Commissioner of Police for his commitment and dedication to ensuring safety of lives and property in the state.
“You were a hero in our relentless quest to ensure peace.
“Your gallantry and bravey will remain an enduring memory as we mourn your sudden demise.
“You kept us safe and gave us your all.
“We will forever remember you for your courage and bravery.
“Nothing will fill the void your passing has created, especially in our fight against criminality.”
Urging the late Commissioner of police’s family to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity and total submission to God, the governor prayed the Almighty Allah to grant Jimoh’s soul peaceful rest in Ajana.
