Certificate saga: NYSC defends Kemi Adeosun, says ‘she applied for exemption’

Following the crisis surrounding the alleged forgery of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate by the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, the scheme on Monday, maintained that the Minister did apply for an exemption certificate.

Adeosun had last week been under fire over a report published by an online medium which stated that Adeosun allegedly boycotted the compulsory one year service and as a result, forged an exemption certificate years graduation.

According to the report, Mrs Adeosun graduated from the Polytechnic of East London in 1989, at the age of 22 making it is obligatory for her to participate in the one-year national service.

However, in a terse statement issued by the NYSC Head of Press unit, Mrs. Adeyemi Adenike, in Abuja, the NYSC said checking by its records, the Minister applied for an exemption certificate.

The statement entitled: RE-EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE OF THE HON. MINISTER OF FINANCE, MRS. KEMI ADEOSUN reads:

“Our attention has been drawn to the issue of the alleged forgery of an NYSC Exemption Certificate by the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun.

“Checking our records, Mrs. Adeosun did apply for an Exemption Certificate.”

It added that investigations will be conducted to ascertain the origin of the alleged forgery.

“We shall investigate the origin of the purported Exemption Certificate in question,” it added.
