Nigerian youths, no more complain. The #NotTooYoungToRun bill has been signed into law, and you can now take part in politics from your grassroots.

As promised during his Democracy Day speech, president Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday signed into law the bill, which can now see Nigeria produce a president as young as 30-years-old.

The #NotTooYoungToRun Bill seeks to alter the Section 65, 106, 131, 177 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), to reduce the age qualification for the office of the President from 40 years to 30 years; Governor 35 to 30, Senate 35 to 30, House of Representatives 30 to 25 and State House of Assembly 30 to 25.

The Bill also seeks to mainstream independent candidacy into Nigeria’s electoral process.

Since the passage of the bill by the National Assembly in July 2017, about 25 states, representing more than two-thirds of the country’s 36 states, had adopted the bill as at March ending.

It was the outcome of relentless efforts by a coalition of more than 40 youth-based initiatives across the country.
