The United Action for Change (UAC) has issued a strong condemnation of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) following a recent publication linking UAC convener, Dr. Muiz A. Banire, OON, SAN, to the abduction of an FIJ reporter.

In a statement released by Comrade Michael Popoola, the Secretary of UAC, the organisation expressed deep concern over FIJ’s online publication, titled “CONFIRMED: Muiz Banire Wrote the Petition That Triggered FIJ Reporter’s Abduction.” The statement highlighted that UAC operates independently from Dr. Banire and emphasised that any mention of UAC within the context of Dr. Banire’s actions was both ill-intended and unwarranted.

UAC reiterated its commitment to social justice and the rule of law, emphasising its stance against cyberbullying, which it views as a significant societal issue.

The organization defended Dr. Banire’s actions, stating that as a legal practitioner, he has a duty to represent his clients and address issues such as cyberbullying through appropriate legal channels.

Furthermore, UAC criticized FIJ for failing to disclose that the petition in question was written on behalf of a client, which it deemed as a further abuse of social media.

The statement questioned the motives behind FIJ’s allegations and urged the organization to retract its publication for the greater good of society.

In conclusion, UAC called for responsible journalism and emphasized the importance of defending against unfounded allegations while advocating for due process. The organization urged all parties involved to prioritize truth and fairness in addressing such matters.
