CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe has confirmed that Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu will attend Sunday’s final match of the Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan.

That will be the first time since 1980 that a Nigerian president will attend a final match of the competition.
In 1980 in Lagos, the late President Shehu Shagari was a cheer leader when the then Green Eagles won the cup for the first time on home soil.
In 1994 when Nigeria won again in Tunisia, the Head of State at the time, Gen. Sani Abacha did not attend the final match.
In 2013, the Senate President, David Mark was at the head of Nigeria’s delegation when the Super Eagles won in Johannesburg, South Africa.
At a press conference Friday afternoon in Abidjan, Motsepe revealed that the Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima told him that President Tinubu will be in attendance at the final match on Sunday.
