Kogi Matters
BREAKING!: HON. TEEJAY YUSUF FLOORS SEN. DINO MELAYE TO CLINCH KOGI WEST SENATORIAL CANDIDACY ON THE PLATFORM OF PDP.
The intriguing and suspense-filled primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Kogi West Senatorial District ended moments ago with the emergence of Hon. Teejay Yusuf as the party’s candidate defeating Sen. Dino Melaye in a runoff after the duo tied at 88 votes each in the first ballot that had two other aspirants.
Despite the reported attempt to sway votes with massive financial inducements, the outcome of the rerun was an anticlimax as it was an overwhelming victory for Hon. Teejay Yusuf with 163 votes and Sen. Dino Melaye with 99 votes, as against a photo finish race envisaged.
Political pundits believed that this result is another plus for Hon. Teejay Yusuf who preparatory to the 2011 elections defeated then Hon. Dino Melaye’s second term bid for the House of Representatives in PDP’s primary.
This outcome in the PDP senatorial primaries has brought about an interesting scenario with the earlier emergence of Olobatoke, another Kabba indigene as House of Representatives candidate of PDP for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.
2023 elections is definitely going to be very interesting.
