BREAKING: CAF Cancels Nigeria, Libya AFCON Qualifier Over Controversy
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the second-leg match in Group D of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights from the schedule.
Originally set to occur in Libya at 8 PM, the match follows a first leg in which the Super Eagles won 1-0 at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The return leg has become contentious, as Super Eagles players and officials reported a grueling 14-hour ordeal at a Libyan airport that ultimately forced them to return home.
CAF has announced an investigation into the matter after the Libyan Football Federation accused Nigeria of sabotage and hinted at potential legal action.
Furthermore, CAF’s recent update on upcoming matches did not list the Nigeria versus Libya game.
