Boxing Promoter, Odushola Plans Big For Young Boxers Says; “I’m Passionate About Boxing”

A United States of America-based Nigerian boxing promoter, Jonathan Odushola has revealed his plans for young boxers in Nigeria that are aspiring to make a living in the profession.

Odushola stated this after securing a promotion boxing license from the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), saying he is ready to invest in Nigerian boxing and give the nation’s home-grown talents opportunity to show their quality and guide them to stardom.

“I used to be very sad seeing what has become of professional boxing in Nigeria today. In the past, Nigeria used to be known for boxing and through it the country was put on the world map for the first time in the area of sports.

“We want to make boxing as important and popular as football. So I want to use my platform; ‘Odushola International Boxing Promotions’ to attract young boxers and show them that they can make ends meet and become influential through boxing,” he said.

The New York-based promoter said that part of his goals is to help Nigerian youths through boxing both at home and abroad, adding that he developed interest in boxing, when he listened to Ridwan Oyekola a.k.a Scorpion in some numerous interviews with the media, where he lamented over many challenges that are facing young boxers in Nigeria.

“I have actually been following boxing by watching the great legends in the game such as Muhammed Ali, Iron Mike Tyson and numerous others around the World.

He recalled that in the United States, Floyd Mayweather, a boxer and promoter, promoted the sport amongst the youth, saying that all these made him have strong passion for boxing and promote the sport at home and abroad.

Odushola however hinted that he’s going to collaborate with Sola Ayodele, the CEO of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions (COABOX) to stage his debut show in Ibadan on December 26, 2022 where young boxers will be given opportunities to display their talents.
