Babangida Will Not Interfere With G5 Governors, Atiku Matter

Former president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) has reportedly denied the rumour of meddling in the issues between the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the G5 Governors in the party.

Recall that some governors that are not satisfied with the current leadership of the PDP have formed themselves into a group known as G5 Governors and have vowed not to work with the leaders of the party until it’s current National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu resigns from office.

The party has however, made futile efforts to reconcile the group with the party so that it could succeed in the forthcoming general elections.

The G5 governors include Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Sources close to IBB insisted that while he is not averse to the need to ensure unity in the major opposition party, he will not interfere with what should be internal affairs of the party.

The sources said that the former military president believes that issues should be allowed to take natural causes and that he is always willing to offer his own pieces of advice on issues when occasion calls for it.

According to the sources, the current information in the media indicating that IBB was making moves to reconcile the warring parties “is a figment of imagination of some mischief makers that just decided to fly a kite, adding that it is merely a rumour.

“We are surprised that people could come up with this kind of information. If Babangida has such plans it will not come from the factory of rumour mongers.

“As a respected statesman, former president Ibrahim Babangida knows what to do at the right time, so they should not set agenda for him.

“While IBB is not opposed to a resolution of the crisis, he would not want to interfere with internal affairs of a major party in Nigeria like the PDP,” the sources said.

They maintained that Babangida has never been found wanting in his duty of working for the progress of Nigeria and that he has always been offering valuable pieces of advice to Nigerian leaders at all levels, saying that he might not make such public.

According to them, it is the wish of IBB that Nigeria becomes the country of everybody’s dream, adding that he will continue to do his best for the nation, while he is still alive.
