The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos State, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, has commended the organisers of the LagosPhoto/NatGeo Festival for its impact on the development of the arts.

Ayorinde noted that the ideals the project was promoting were adding value to the talents and dreams of the participants.

He made the remark in his office in Alausa on Wednesday during the presentation of a cheque to the winner of the 2017 edition of the National Geographic/LagosPhoto Portfolio Review, Obayomi Anthony.

While the Director of the African Artists Foundation/LagosPhoto, Mr. Azu Nwagbogu, stressed its commitment to the development of arts in the state and in the country at large, Ayorinde pledged the support of the state government in the promotion of the arts.

Congratulating the winner and the African Artists’ Foundation for what he called a job well done in bringing the world to Lagos for the LagosPhoto Festival, the commissioner said, “The Akinwumi Ambode Government takes the development of the arts, culture and tourism sector seriously.

“That is why it is vigorously pushing all the sub-sectors forward because we believe that arts and entertainment have a lot to contribute to the socio-economic development of the state and country in general. We also believe in the value that several stakeholders are adding in this regard.”
