Adamawa looters get ultimatum, defaulters risk house demolition
Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has threatened to demolish or revoke certificate of occupancy of houses where looted properties are kept in the state.
In a special broadcast on Tuesday, the governor asked looters to return the items they carted away from public and private warehouses to nearest police stations or traditional rulers’ houses within 12 hours.
He threatened that failure to comply before the expiration of the ultimatum at 6am on Wednesday, he would sign an executive order for a house-to-house search, noting that the order would empower government to destroy or withdraw ownership certificate of houses where looted goods are found.
The governor who described the looters as criminals disclosed that so far, 155 suspects were in police custody while nine vehicles and 12 tricycles loaded with the loot have been recovered. (Text, excluding headline, courtesy Daily Trust)
