Residents of Walter Andem Street, Abule-Egba area of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos, have expressed concern over the noise from ‘De Sip Lounge,’ which was officially launched on Friday May 3, 2024 in the area.

They are however callingon the Lagos Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to save them as they said the lounge is constituting environmental nuisance to the area.
Speaking with newsmen on Wednesday, Mr. Osuolale Azeez, an aged man, who lives on the street, lamented the extremely loud sound emanating from the premises of De Sip Lounge ever since it was opened.
Azeez stated that the people in the area now find it very hard to sleep every night as the sound sends something like tremor across the area, with shaking heard and felt by the people on their house windows and doors all around the neighbourhood.
“As much as development is a good thing, yet people’s welfare need be factored into consideration. In spite of the fact that the lounge is providing services, no consideration was given to the environmental impact of their activities on the residents.
“It is rather not fair that the noise blared into the atmosphere by operators of this lounge tends to rob residents of their deserved quality rest after their daily hustles.
“I think it is high time the government intervened. At least there is a range of decibel of sound that such lounge should let out as ordered by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) at that particular time of the night.
“One man’s business should not be allowed to deny many people their night-life peace. The fact that this lounge is not enclosed makes it mandatory for measures that will give mutual benefit to other people in the area to be taken.
“I doubt if at conception appropriate approvals were granted for such construction in this area. I call on the government to do the needful before they send us to our early graves,” Osuolale said.
Also Mrs. Mojirade Adeokun a mother of two, was close to tears as she expressed her worries for the coming days.
Adeokun said that she is a new tenant in the area and that what really endeared her husband to rent an apartment there is the serenity, but she said that has now been lost ever since De Sip Lounge was opened.
“I know that a lot of investments must have been made by the owners, but they did not consider the welfare of the residents of the area.
“Nobody would have raised an eyebrow if such is done in an enclosed setting, with sound-proofed doors to curtail the sound so that it would be for those visiting there for leisure alone.
“When they started on Friday, I thought maybe it would only be a weekend thing, but unfortunately it now runs through the week days. My family is now at risk with the noise generated from the loud speakers, which is clearly injurious to our mental health. I think it is high time the government addressed this disturbing development,”  Mrs Adeokun said.
A young man, Mr. Tade Ajiroba, who also registered his distaste on the matter, stressed that Walter Andem is known for serenity prior to the emergence of De Sip Lounge.
According to him, there are lounges elsewhere, but that they are in secluded or enclosed sections, where cool music are skillfully played by live bands or Disk Jockeys in a way that the peace and serenity of the areas are not infringed upon.
He added that unless the government takes a drastic action, the negative impact of the noise will be harmful to the health of the residents.
