Court Summons Ex-Gov Akeredolu’s wife, Online Newspaper Publisher Over Alleged Libel

A High Court in Akure, Ondo State, on Tuesday summoned Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, former First Lady of the state, and Olumide Akinrinlola, publisher of Starnews Online Newspapers, over an alleged libel case.
The summons follows a petition by the Ondo State Commissioner of Finance, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac, who has filed a ?1 billion lawsuit against the defendants. The case stems from a Starnews Online publication dated February 13, 2025, titled:
“I Wouldn’t Be a Widow If Aketi Had Listened to Me – Betty Akeredolu Talks Tough.”
Isaac is requesting the court to compel Akeredolu and Akinrinlola to retract the publication and issue an unreserved apology in two national newspapers.
The court summons, signed by Registrar Adebanjo T.A., instructs the defendants to appear before the court within 30 days or risk a judgment in their absence.
