Valentine: Health Foundation Urges Youths To Priotise Health

Love For Health Organisation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has urged the youths and students to prioritize their health and well-being as they celebrate 2025 Valentine.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NGO in collaboration with Rolex Comprehensive Group of Schools Iyana Iba Lagos holds free health outreach tagged ‘Love your Health'( to celebrate Valentine among the youth and secondary school students.
Ojo Akinwunmi, the Host and Moderator of the programme in his remarks underscored the importance of health as the foundation for a happy and productive life.
Akinwunmi charged the secondary school students to focus on their health and make it a priority to leave a healthy life.
Our theme “Love Your Health”, was aimed at educating and empowering students, women, and young girls on critical health issues, with free medical checkups, engaging discussions, and interactive sessions.
“At Love for Health, we believe that health is the cornerstone of success and happiness.
Our organisation is committed to equipping the girl child, women, and students with the knowledge and resources they need to take control of their health,” she said.
Mrs Chinyere Akabogu-Onwuka, the Principal of Rolex Comprehensive School, in her remarks said that the like between self love and healthy living should not be over emphasised.
Akabogu-Onwuka advised and encouraged the students to adopt a holistic approach to safe guide their well-being, physical and mental health, and their personal safety.
She added that the key aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, is to engaged in balanced nutrition, hydration, exercise, and mental wellness.
“You have to eat a variety of foods, stay hydrated, and consume fruits and vegetables.
“Avoid processed foods, limit sugary intake, and ensure you get adequate sleep at least eight to ten hours of sleep is essential for students, but many neglect this due to excessive screen time,” she said
The school principal also addressed the importance of forming healthy relationships and avoiding negative peer influences.
“Your environment and the people around you play a crucial role in shaping your well-being, so surround yourself with positivity,” she urged the students.
Mr Wale Anthony, one of the Leader of Love for Health Organisation, said that the group which was established in 2008 has been at the forefront of providing healthcare services, especially for women and girls.
“We are a team of passionate health professionals dedicated to improving healthcare accessibility.
“Nigeria has one of the highest maternal mortality rates globally, with about 512 deaths per 100,000 live births.
“Through our initiatives, we aim to reduce this number by providing free clinical services and advocating for gender equality and reproductive health,” he said.
He noted that the organisation also offers support for victims of gender-based violence, providing counseling and care.
“Women face numerous health challenges, and many lack access to quality medical care. Through education and free health services, we strive to bridge this gap,” Anthony added.
“A major highlight of the event was the free medical screening, where students and community members were assessed for potential health risks.
“There’s significance in early detection in preventing chronic illnesses.
“Many diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, can go unnoticed for years. By detecting them early, we can take preventive measures before they become life-threatening,” he added.
